Information We Do Not Collect

CarryAware is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect:

• Your GPS location or location history
• Your name, email address, or personal identity
• Device identifiers or advertising IDs
• Usage analytics or behavioral data
• Contacts, photos, or other personal files

Location Data

CarryAware uses your device's GPS to provide proximity alerts when you approach locations where firearm possession may be restricted. This location data is:

• Processed entirely on your device — your coordinates never leave your phone
• Not stored — we do not maintain a history of where you have been
• Not transmitted — no location data is sent to our servers or any third party
• Used only for real-time alerts — to compare your current position against publicly available location data

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device using secure on-device storage and is never transmitted:

• App preferences — your chosen sensitivity level, theme, quiet hours, and category settings
• Alert history — a local log of recent alerts for your reference
• Terms acceptance — whether you have accepted the legal disclaimer
• Cached map tiles — location data tiles downloaded from our CDN for offline use

Data Downloaded from Our Servers

The app downloads publicly sourced geographic data (restricted location boundaries) from our content delivery network (CDN). This data describes locations such as schools, courthouses, and federal buildings — it does not contain any personal information. These downloads are anonymous and do not include any device identifiers.

Push Notifications

If you enable push notifications, your device's push notification token (a random identifier assigned by Apple or Google) is registered with our server. This token:

• Cannot be used to identify you personally
• Is used solely to send you relevant alerts or app updates
• Can be removed at any time by disabling notifications in your device settings

Location Submissions

If you submit a missing location through the app, we collect only the information you provide: the location name, address, category, and optional notes. Submissions do not include your identity or device information.

Donations

If you choose to make a donation, payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not receive, store, or have access to your credit card number or payment details. Stripe's privacy policy governs the handling of your payment information.

Third-Party Services

• Expo Push Notifications — used to deliver push notifications via Apple and Google's notification infrastructure
• Stripe — used for optional donation processing
• OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — used for address search (queries are sent anonymously without device identifiers)
• Amazon CloudFront — used to serve location data tiles (no personal data is included in requests)

Children's Privacy

CarryAware is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
